Simply Spearmint Chip Based off of Jeni’s Backyard Mint recipe. You steep the fresh mint leaves (from Lauren’s @lettucegrow hydroponic planter) in the cream overnight and voila a really nice mellow and fresh mint flavor perfectly complimented by dark chocolate flecks. But to keep things even more perfect, I added chopped mint Oreos, which adds an extra bit of crunch and honestly, I think mint Oreos may be the best Oreos. The ice cream was good without the Oreos, so I could go either way on that add in, yummy regardless, 🍦🍦🍦🍦 out of five cones. Best paired with a double mint twin and Saib - Mint Jam.

Happy #icecreamday!!!! @alleywayicecream Got a hot tip from Uncle Mark to check out this spot while in the Catskills and it did not disappoint. It’s a tiny little window in an alleyway, with some seating on patio behind it, but it packs a lot of interesting flavors onto its small menu. I got Thai Tea Cookies and Cream which had all the tea flavor you want in that cream orange goodness with plenty of cookies bits too. The second flavor (bonus you can get two flavors in a small, always a big plus for moi) I got was Ube Heath Bar Crunch, purple scoops of yum! The Ube base was great, although I didn’t notice the Heath bar as much as I thought I would, but overall a good unique flavor. PS does anyone eat Heath bars just on their own? The kids got Ovaltine Brownie and Fresh Mint Chip. The Ovaltine was very ovaltiney, a mellow chocolate flavor with big chunks of yummy brownie, overall not my favorite of the flavors we had but good if you like a more chill chocolate. The Mint was as advertised, very fresh and very earthy minty, a good option if you want something a little less sweet. Overall, very creamy, simple but unique, 🍦🍦🍦🍦🍦 out five cones! I want to go back for a scoop of lemon poppy and their strawberry buttermilk, next time! Best paired with a nice stroll through the wonderies of Saugerties and The Velvet Underground - Sweet Jane.

@halfbakedharvest Honey Pretzel Ice Cream (I added a swirl of Nutella and macadamia nuts and dubbed it Honey Pretzelo’s) This recipe is from Lauren’s favorite cookbook author, Tieghan Gerard. We have certainly enjoyed her dinner recipes and her chocolate chip cookie recipe is 💯. So I thought I’d give one of her ice cream recipes a try, this one is a more traditional cooked egg yolk method, with honey as the main base flavor. It came out a bit icy, but the flavor was good, but not great. I used @onemightymill pretzels which are amazing as is everything they make, but this sweet ice cream probably needed a more salty pretzel to balance it out. Tieghan calls for serving this in a Nutella dipped cone, instead I put swirls of Nutella directly in it and added chopped macadamia nuts (because honey plus nuts.). Overall, yummy but not one I’d rush to make again. 🍦🍦🍦 out of five cones. Best paired with flaked salt and Coastal Club - honey.

Rocky Road (or as I call it, in honor of our local rock, Puddingstone!), my own recipe in honor of a friend… Oh boy, this ice cream is sweet! Probably cause it’s very sweet chocolate ice cream plus I made some rocky road chunks with melted chocolate and butter (and a bit of vanilla extract) drizzled on marshmallows and walnuts and then topped that with a swirl of praline throughout the ice cream. I was thinking the walnuts would cut the sweetness in this ice cream, but they more just added a nice crunch. Either way, it’s very good, just very intense! 🍦🍦🍦 and a half out of five cones. Best paired with a cake cone to help cut the sweetness and Goodie Mob (ft OutKast) - Black Ice.

@traderjoes Vanilla Fudge Chip The vanilla base is light and airy and has a nice after taste. But really, the chips run this show. There are so many and they are delightfully dark and sweet at the same time. If you let the chips linger and melt on your tongue (and teeth, they will stick to your teeth) it does feel like a mouth full of fudge sauce, yummy yummy fudge. I appreciated the very soft crunch of the chips too, this ice creams succeeds as a basic classic, so you know it’s done well. 🍦🍦🍦🍦 out of five cones. Best paired with a chocolate dipped cone and Sure Sure - This Must Be the Place. #traderjoes

@vanleeuwenicecream Van Leeuwen Chocolate Fudge Brownie Ohhhhhh fudgey! Been wanting to try this brand for awhile, and this flavor delivers! It has that Uber chocolateyness that lingers on the roof of your mouth, with a slightly bitter tang. And the brownie pieces add a nice texture and sweet sugary spike along with a fudge swirl, this ice cream delivers. It’s super creamy and smooth too, very classy French ice cream. If you are fancy, or a parent who wants to annoy their children, you can exclaim “oh la la” when you eat it! 🍦🍦🍦🍦🍦 out of five cones. Best paired with a marshmallow sauce and Tony, Toni, Toné - Feels Good.

Sisters of Anarchy Ice Cream Got to try a bunch of flavors at the Stowe Farmer’s Market. Overall, the flavors were good, crisp and unique, simple but fun. The consistency though, was a little icy, a prefer a more creamy, smooth texture. I got Crystal Blue Persuasion (blueberries and vanilla) and Beefy Blonde (maple ice cream with bacon and blueberries). Crystal was good, light and crisp, definitely less sweet and less intense than what I normally go for. Beefy blonde was a little disappointing, the maple barely came through and the bacon bits took over the flavor and I can’t say I was in love with that (I do love bacon, but I guess the lesson here is I don’t love bacon in ice cream). Lauren and Noah got Chocolate Anarchy which was a lovely deep chocolate flavor, nothing wrong about that! Emily got “I Want Candy…with Chocolate” which is a strange name because it’s actually mint chocolate chip. It’s a very earthy mint flavor, refreshing, but not very sweet. Em liked it, I liked it, Lauren did not. Overall, was a bit disappointed, I appreciated the unique flavors and how they are clearly fresh ingredients and farm-based, light and refreshing, but the slight icy crunch and the lack of mapley goodness in mine docks them back a bit, 🍦🍦🍦 out of five cones.

The Maple Creemee So I’m not going to highlight any one place, as the maple creemee is a simple classic that almost always works no matter where you go, at least if you were raised on Vermont maple syrup like I was (I don’t love that fake corn syrupy “syrup”). Anyways, it’s a simple treat, best served in a cake cone to balance the sweetness, light and airy with a mellow maple flavor. Do yourself a favor and stop and get one next time you are in Vermont! Best paired with a beautiful Vermont mountainscape, and Wu Tang Clan - C.R.E.A.M.

Jeni’s Buttercream Birthday Cake Whoa Jeni, that’s A LOT of sprinkles. If you ask me, chocolate sprinkles are the way to go, rainbow sprinkles taste like stale sugar, so this flavor isn’t really for me (in this case, purchased for my rainbow sprinkles loving daughter). And despite my extreme sweet tooth, I don’t love a lot of frosting, so take this review with that perspective in mind. If you are the type who wants all the frosting and requests the piece with the big frosting flower on it, this may be for you. I do appreciate the bits of yellow cake, but overall, to me, this is 🍦🍦 and a half out of five cones. Best paired with your frosting licking, rainbow sprinkle loving friend and The Archies - Sugar, Sugar.

@jenisicecreams Jeni’s High Five Candy Bar I can’t tell you how excited I was to see a new flavor of Jeni’s @wholefoods , Christmas in June! This flavor: Peanut Butter, caramel, chocolate, and pretzels, has a lot going on, and it’s all good and it’s all very sweet! Maybe too sweet, but it is meant to taste like a candy bar, so it accomplishes that. It reminds me a bit of those frozen snickers bars, but fancier, more complex. Sometimes you just want a simple flavor that works, this is not that. This is a symphony of flavors and the notes are all played at fortissimo! 🍦🍦🍦 and a half out of five cones.
