Shoulders of Giants

“If I have seen further than others, it is by standing upon the shoulders of giants.” – Isaac Newton.

Taking inspiration from this quote, I designed artistic interpretations of the groups that help make City Year’s work possible: Corps Members, Students, Principals, and Champions. The watercolor-like texture is meant to convey how the words and actions of these people spread well beyond them and flow through us. Participants were given mini versions of the poster that included quotes from corps members about whose shoulders they stand on. A “giant” sticker mural was created throughout the night as people shared their own stories about the giants whose shoulders they stand on.
